CD Forum Website
CD Forum empowers Black artists and builds community through art. The nonprofit provides one-of-a-kind artistic, culinary, and community experiences that lift artists and engage the community.
Overview
CD Forum, a Seattle nonprofit organization, was looking to redesign their website so that it would be easier for staff to update and share the outstanding work they do in the community. They had the standard set of requirements for nonprofit websites, including sharing photos, events, and donation information. In addition, they wanted a page that had information specifically for the performing artists that partner with them.
They were working on a tight budget and a quick timeline.
Process
I spoke with staff members to understand the shortcomings of their WordPress site, understand their usual process for updating their website, and learned more about how they engaged with their artists. I also came to understand the importance of the imagery of not only performing artists, but the culinary artists they worked with. The goal was to create a site that featured the extraordinary talent in the Seattle Central District, but not creating too much burden for upkeep or maintenance for their small staff. We started with a preexisting Wix template and then customized it with CD Forum voice, imagery, and video to create a unique product for the nonprofit.
We created a few new pages in our redesign specifically for the unique needs of this nonprofit:
Our Performers — a page to highlight the performing artists
Our Chefs — a page to highlight the chefs who cater the CD Forum events
The Artist’s Portal — a password-protected page where partners could log in to see rehearsal schedules, stage sizes, and other relevant performance information
